Richard is responsible for all the financial aspects of MTI’s corporate and investment activities and also gets involved with portfolio companies to provide advice on growth or exit strategies.
Richard is a Chartered Accountant and gained his qualifying degree at the Scottish Institute of Chartered Accountants with Ernst & Young in 1991. He is an honours graduate of Edinburgh University, where he was selected to spend a year studying abroad at the prestigious Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia. Gaining valuable corporate financial experience in senior financial and operational roles with two of the divisions of John Swire & Sons, Richard also served on the management team of an entrepreneurial early stage venture-backed maritime e-procurement start-up.
Richard, in addition to his FD responsibilities, provides support on deal making and investment management, including due diligence, analysis and assessment of numerous legal documents.
Richard’s financial expertise as a director and controller is a valuable contribution to the team’s cross-domain management skills, where he has been involved with many of MTI's portfolio companies.
In January 2002, Richard joined MTI and was promoted to the position of Finance Director at MTI Partners in 2006 having demonstrated his financial prowess and increased the scope of his responsibilities. In 2010 Richard took on the role as joint Managing Partner.
